Course Report 17th May 2004
It’s hard to believe it’s a year ago when all the
problems had arisen with the greens, but I feel that we
have them back to the usual standard. The definition throughout the whole
course is looking well now
with the growth we are starting to get with this weather.
The greens in general are up to standard except the 1st and a
few areas else where. These are currently
getting worked on by solid tining and overseeding to help fill in these
weaker areas. Overall the greens
were feed at the beginning of the month with an 8-0-0 with 2% iron (the
iron helps reduce the annual
meadow grass seeding). The topdressing programme will continue during the
season as required to
smooth out the surface.
The aprons have also received work on them, to try and
recover the full grass coverage which was
lost through the drought of last summer. This includes hollow coring,
overseeding and applying a slow
release fertiliser. Thus, we have some of these areas growing more than
others, but this will ease off
as the fertiliser works itself out. The tees are getting cut and divoted
twice weekly with the aprons getting
cut as required (at least once a week). The fairways were sprayed for
weeds (mainly daisies) last week
along with the tees, bunkers and the practice area.
We have hollow cored the winter tees and hope to
topdress them in the next few weeks along with
divotting the fairways. The rabbit man has been increased to a weekly
visit to get the rabbits under
control, especially at the bottom of the course. This will continue until
the end of June.
Finally, as this is my last course report, I would like
to thank all the members of the club for your
support over the last 12 years here. Also it would be wrong of me, not to
mention, a “thank you” to
all the staff that have worked for me over the years, they have made my
job a lot easier. I have
enjoyed working here and would like to wish you and the club all the very
best for the future.
