ENVIRONMENT REPORT - 2003

The whin management plan for this year was again completed during the month of February. The bank
at the 17th, which had become overgrown and stick like, was the biggest part of whins cut on the course
for a few years. Although comments were of shock at the time the members are now starting to see the
regeneration that happens after good management.

The dry weather really started at Fortrose in February and continued right the way through to November, with
only 569mm recorded for that period. So the irrigation system was going full out through out
the summer. This however, was after the course was rewired; we had a lightning strike sometime over the winter
of 2002-2003 which burnt the wiring. The course was running hard and fast like a links is renowned for.

Due to the dry weather the rough was slow in growing allowing the skylarks a chance to breed, and
also the flora boom which was very picturesque while playing your round of golf

The winter has still not really arrived yet, so we are still waiting!!!!

NOTE: Just received news (20 April 2004) that we have been awarded the first ever award
made by "Friends of Conservation" for international wildlife conservation. This award will
presented on the 22nd June 2004
